The collection includes a wide range of historic European art, incorporating examples of European medieval ivory carving, medieval architectural stone carving, as well as medieval manuscripts. Renaissance and Baroque paintings and drawings are also represented, including works by Italian masters such as Annibale Carracci and artists of the Northern Renaissance such as Jan Brueghel the Younger.

The collection also holds over 100 works by the 18th century British artist, William Hogarth, as well as numerous other works on paper from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries by artists from across Europe such as Giovanni Battista Piranesi, Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes, Käthe Kollwitz, Henry Moore, and Jean Dubuffet, amongst many others.

Contemporary European art is also featured in the collection, ranging from non-traditional photography by German-Egyptian artist Susan Hefuna to paintings and works of mixed media by British artists Callum Innes and Annie Morris.
